From small beginnings in the city of Dunedin, New Zealand, NHNZ Worldwide has grown into an international force in contemporary factual television. We’re known for producing quality TV shows and we’re the embodiment of ‘truth is stranger than fiction’ - our shows bring the world to life in amazing detail, telling compelling stories that connect the viewers with worlds they can only dream about.
For us, it all started with wildlife programs but NHNZ Worldwide has grown to be about so much more – from hit factual series to ground-breaking documentaries, we aim to tell stories that bit differently. We cherish our 300 plus awards, including two Emmys and a Wildscreen Panda, because they remind us just how good our people are. That’s why we can work with broadcasters all over the world, selling to over 236 countries. On any one day, you might find our cameras shooting whales in the Antarctic, surfers in Australia, reality challenge shows in Los Angeles and a good dose of renovation in the mid-West.
Since it was founded in 1977, NHNZ has produced over 1200 hours of top-rating television from our production bases in Dunedin, Los Angeles and Beijing. We’re used to collaborating with some of the best filmmakers, on-screen talent and broadcasters in the world. You may have noticed our Mysterious Planet series, with David Schwimmer, as part of the launch of the new Discovery+ streaming platform and we have a simply amazing series in production for Netflix. We make original content for PBS, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, A&E, Smithsonian Channel, Nat Geo Wild, National Geographic Channel, Love Nature, NHK, CCTV, Arte and France Télévisions.
We’ve been sharing some of the planet’s most interesting stories for over 40 years. And we’re as dedicated as ever to creating programmes from a different perspective. And let’s not forget our amazing footage library collected over four decades – if it’s animal and it moves, we probably have footage.
We’re a feisty indie producer and proud of it! Since March 2021, NHNZ Worldwide has been majority-owned by Dame Julie Christie DNZM. The other shareholder is Blue Ant Media.
